Accessing Commerce Server Remotely

Hi,

I am currently in the process of developing a Web Application using
Commerce 
Server 2002. From what I have read so far it seems that both the Web 
Application and the Commerce Server Installation have to both reside on
the 
same machine. Is it possible for the Web Application to reside in one
machine 
and access the Commerce Server Components remotely rather than having both
of 
them on one machine and if so how can I do this.
