XP host unable to search ICS surfing Mac client

by =?Utf-8?B?amF6ejRrdXJ0?= <jazz4kurt@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jan 14, 2008 at 05:41 PM

I am without hope beyond what someone can offer me here:
I have read copious googled articles on MS's site regarding ICS. I've
****ed
through dozens of searches and dozens of sites, chatted with a rather
defensive MS c/s rep and found nothing describing a way to troubleshoot,
much
less cure my problem.
My network is tiny. There is the PC that is connected to DSL, and the Mac
G4
OS X 10.3.9 which is connected to the PC on the LAN side, and has access
to
the internet (and is fully updated).
Prior to rebuilding this PC format and install, I had learned in a
informative article at about.com that the only way to connect the two was
to
use the search function from XP's start menu, putting in the IP for the
Mac
and searching for People or Computers with that. This worked before
rebuilding, but no longer works. Between the original build and this one,
someone broke into my home, stole my XP Pro CD and MS sent me XP Pro with
SP
2.
I don't know if this is relevant, but recently I have been looking through

services and closing services that looked like security holes to me from
my
tiny network perspective, but I have a recollection that even before that
mad
scientist exploit, I was already unable to search this connected client.
