Hello!
From the very beginning I have only used webmail on my computer but for
some
days ago I received
configuration data(smtp,pop3, username,password...) for my e-mail client.
The problem is that my outlook 2000 hang when I
click the button marked <send and receive>. This happen even when I
have no mail either to send or receive. It seems to happen any time.
The plattform I use is windows 2000 professional with the latest service
pack.
I have also tried with outlook express 6 also with the same kind of
hang.
Now to the very strange thing.
Next to me there is another computer called B that also have windows
2000 professional but with outlook express 5 on the same Ethernet LAN
actually sitting in the same switch as the one that is hanging. Note I
have
exactly the
same configuration setting as the one that is hanging for POP3 and SMTP
and
the
account name, password and so on.
When I use this one called B I never ever have experienced a hang it
always
work perfectly. So if I try to
use outlook express 5 on the computer B when outlook 2000 hang it always
work but outlook 2000 hang until it timeout.
As I mentioned this happen often even when I have no mail because computer
B
didn't receive any.
We have two network card in the computer with outlook 2000 so I have
disabled the one that I don't use but the hang is still there.
I can't cause it to hang it just hang any time. If I click the button
<send
and receive> every 5 minutes for one hour it might hang half
of the time.
So because I can always click on the <send and receive> on computer B
when outlook 2000 hang the problem must be on my computer it can't be
located on either POP3 server or SMTP server.
I have set the server timeout to 5 minutes
When it hang it says connecting to server and then after some time I
get this message
Here is the error message translated from Swedish to English it says
something like
A timeout has occurred when comminicating with the server.(Account
Min mail,POP3-server:mail.uht.se, Error number: 0x800ccc19).
As a solution I have done the following.
1. Uninstall AVG completely but the hang is still there.
2. Update my window 2000 professionell.
In my effort to try to solve my problem I now use just telnet to
connect to my pop3 mail server.
I hope that if I use telnet I might get some more information about my
problem that will result to a solution to my problem.
As I have mentioned before I have two computers called A and B.
When I use telnet mail.uht.se 110 from A I sometimes receive an answer
with OK . . .
But from time to time when giving the command telnet mail.uht.se 110
I don't receive this OK but only
this error message "-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the
mail server!"
If I send ping mail.uht.se when receiving this error message above I
always get a reply.
So the strange thing is ping will always find mail.uht.se but telnet
will not always find mail.uht.se
If I use this telnet mail.uht.se 110 from B I always receive this OK
Does somebody have some idea why telnet or my e-mail client will not
find my pop3 server named mail.uht.se.
It's very annoying and irretating problem that I do want to get rid
of as soon as possible.
Does anyone have any suggestion what is causing this kind of strange
problem.
