installing programs

Hi, I am having a problem installing programs. I get a pop-up stating: 
c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for
running 
ms-dos and microsoft windows aplications - choose "close" to terminate the

application. Can anyone help/explaine to me how to change this so that I
can 
install programs from a CD>  Thanks for your help ..........shyharv
