POP3 and telnet NOT working from workstation clients running XP

by =?Utf-8?B?S2FudA==?= <Kant@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 19, 2008 at 01:43 AM

Hi, installed the latest batch of updates on XP workstations. I get the
following message trying to get pop3 emails.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes
for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'account name', Server:'server', Protocol: POP3, ****t

110, Secure (SSL); No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

This is from Outlook and Outlook Express. In this case I'm not using
Exchange but setting up a separate pop3 account in Outlook on the
workstation.

If I try to "Telnet pop.compuserve.com 110" I can't get a connection on
the
Workstation, but it works fine on the SBS2000 server. I've tried disabling

the firewall, ISA packet filters, creating new outlook email accounts etc.

The only way I can get the client to work is to connect the workstation
directly to the broadband router, then it works fine, so it must be
something
to do with the SBS2000 configuration, but I'm stumped on this one.

Any ideas on what to try next?

Kant
