Subfolders under INBoX not getting notification of new mail

In Outlook 2003, Why do I not receive notification of new mail when new
mail 
goes into one of my established subfolders under my InBox folder?  I get 
notification if mail goes to my general inbox folder. Just not my
subfolders.
