Exchange 2003 server automatically converts plain/text emails to h

When I send a plain/text email to an Exchange 2003 server (via WebDav) and 
then retrieve the message, the message is returned as text/html with html 
formatting and the following line:
<!-- Converted from text/plain format -->

Is it possible to supress this conversion?
