Here is my problem:
1. AoE III purchased some time ago, installed, played, etc.
2. Traveled to my other house, thought it would be nice to play AoEIII
3. Discovered that CD #1 unhooked itself from the case and got all
scratched up on the trip here. Install now creates endless CD errors
on the art3.bar file or whatever.
4. Tried poli****ng, CD repair kit, and so on, to no avail.
5. Bought ANOTHER copy of AoE III, figuring that I could use my old
key, and install the new one on my laptop and invite my gf to play
against me and other friends online.
Now, the new CD does not accept the old key, or vice versa, although
the part number is the same.
Deleting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Age of
Empires 3\1.0\PID brings up the enter cd key prompt, but the old one
is still not accepted.
I am not breaking any rules here - in the "treat software like a book"
principle kind of way, even though I am sure the boy scout alliance
wants me to buy everything for my computer, twice, unbundled.
Is there a fix, or do I have to take Staples to court so I can bring
the just-bought-and-opened copy back?
