No gold bar in browser to allow Active X to install

Below is an example of the error messages I have been getting every time I 
come to a place online where I need to allow an Active X control to
install.  

"We were unable to install the ActiveX control 'MSN Photo Upload Tool'
from
'Microsoft Cor****ation MSN'. If you see a gold bar at the top of your
browser, please click it to install. Otherwise, click Install to try
again."

I do not have a gold bar across the top of my IE6 so I have no way to
allow 
it to install.  How can I get the gold bar back?  The computer was
infected 
with a virus and I had to do a system recovery to get going again.  That
put 
me back to Windows SP1.  I updated to SP2, downloaded and installed all of

the critical updates and everything else seems to be functioning well. 
The 
only other problem I have is when I come to certain pages online I get the

Internet Explorer error: "Stack overflow at line: 106" followed almost 
immediately by the IE error: "A script on this page is causing your
computer 
to run slowly.  Do you want to abort this script?  Yes   No"  Don't know
if 
these things are all related, but would appreciate any help that anyone
can 
offer.
