What exactly does "...the format of the file is .xls" mean? Excel can
open csv files and they will look and behave within Excel pretty much
like an actual xls file, but that does not mean that the csv file is in
xls format.
Excel can also open html files and if the html file contains a simple
html table once opened in Excel you would be hard-pressed to notice any
difference compared to looking at an actual Excel file.
Perhaps you are confused because Windows file associations (on your pc)
are set such that Excel is the default program used for opening a csv
file. If that is the case you can change that.
