Thanks for your suggestion.
In the meantime I have established that the problem is related to the
Access
2002/3 file format.
The application ran for years under Access 2000 without a problem. When I
put
the database into 2002/3 format running under Access 2007 it started
growing
and crashed. Now I have changed the database to 2007 running under Access
2007 and the file does not grow.
